The watch was originally purchased for the vibrating alarm.It was thought this might silently wake me up in the morning without disturbing anyone else who might happen to want to keep sleeping.Sometimes, this works.The alarm is effective, but it only rings for about 10 seconds before turning itself off.I'm sure this saves the battery, but it also reduces the utility of the alarm.The silent alarm is still useful if you need to set a reminder during meetings or other events.But for waking up, it needs to be used with a backup alarm for the times when 10 seconds just isn't enough.

The screen is difficult to read under any lighting circumstances.This is a traditional LCD display, except instead of blocking out black letters from reflecting light on a white background, it lets light through the white letters on a black background.Because of this, most of the screen is black most of the time, which leaves little light to reflect off of the back and out through the numbers.Don't let the photo of the item fool you: it's basically illegible without the backlight.The backlight, too, turns off almost immediately in an attempt to save batteries.

The biggest hassle, though, comes from Casio's old interface.Programming the watch is an adventure in pressing random buttons in the hope of doing something successfully.Pressing the bottom-left button cycles through modes, while holding it switches to the setting mode (except in timers, where setting mode happens when the buttons aren't active).The top-left button decreases numbers, and the bottom-right button increases them.Except for those times where one or the other is switched for a different function.The middle button on the left generally switches fields in a setting mode, or triggers timers, or sometimes something else random.The big red button turns on the backlight.Considering the watchface is basically illegible without the backlight, and the backlight stays on for all of 3 seconds, you will be pressing that button a lot while you try to figure out how to do anything.

But as much as I hate the interface, and as dissapointed as I've been in not completing my quest to find the perfect alarm clock, it's hard not to like it.It is built with Casio's legendary durability.The band is thin and clean.And in general it is more stylish than you would expect.It's just something I want to wear, which can't be said for a lot of things.Once setup, it is quite easy to forget how terrible the interface is.Something fundamental in me just likes the watch.It's like a cool throwback to 80's calculator watches but in a 70's Spaceman white.The vibrating alarm is a nice touch that i'd love to see more watches incorporate.And it does have every function you can imagine.

If you're not interested in the visual appeal of the watch, then I can't recommend it.There are better options in terms of features, etc.But I still have a fondness for it myself.
